ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Propel McKeesport is Propel's second school, opening in 2005 and serving 400 scholars in grades K-8. In March 2010, Propel McKeesport was named the single top-performing elementary school from a nationwide consortium of charter schools that includes recognized leaders such as KIPP, Aspire, and Uncommon Schools. It was the second consecutive year that Propel McKeesport received an Effective Practice Incentive Community (EPIC) Award from New Leaders for New Schools, most recently receiving the award in the "Gold Gain" category. Gold Gain is EPIC's highest honor, awarding schools making the greatest gains with student achievement.

Propel McKeesport operates around 6 Team Foundations through a new PBIS system called Project Team:

  • Helping others
  • Being a positive change agent
  • Anti-bullying
  • Being a leader
  • Being resilient and problem-solving

In the 5th and 6th grades, Education City engages scholars in a "real-world" atmosphere. Scholars can apply for jobs (and complete tasks around the classrooms) based on their strengths, such as accountants, HR representatives, and decorators. To keep their jobs, they must keep their behavior up to par. Our middle school scholars have the opportunity to participate in electives such as sudoku, yoga, sports, and service learning.

OUR APPROACH

Propel McKeesport cultivates successful lifelong leaders and learners through a culture of high expectations and academic excellence.
